What You Can & Can’t Do Advertising Botox on Social Media

We’ve had a few of our Inspired Cosmetic Trainees asking us questions about Botox or Botulinum toxin on social media and what can we do, so we’ve put together this easy to understand blog for you…..

Firstly when it comes to finding new clients and showing off your work, social media is an excellent tool for your business!

However, you need to be thoughtful about what you post, to stay within the rules and regulations of posting online.

Let’s start with what NOT to do…

1/ Don’t Use the Word Botox

You will have heard this before. As botox is a prescription medicine, you are not allowed to advertise it as a treatment.

What we’ve found is that using ways around it, such as vague phrases like “anti-wrinkle injections” or brand names like “botulinum toxin” can still be just as much of a problem.

Even using hashtags such as #botox will be picked up.

Don’t worry, we’ll get on to what you CAN do soon

2/ Don’t Share Before and After Pictures of Botox Treatments

Before and after pictures are a great way to showcase what you can do and are great for social media engagement

However, you need to avoid doing this with botox patients. Again, it is a prescription medicine, and you cannot advertise it to the masses.

(Non-prescription treatments on the other hand… we’ll get to that)

3/ Don’t Offer Botox as an Answer to Medical Conditions

We’ve all heard that botox can be used for treating excessive sweat, however, you should not use this in your advertising

For the same reason as above, you cannot be seen to be promoting prescription medicine.

Avoid this angle and instead offer treatment for excessive sweating – no need to state what you’ll be using.

You can read more about what you CAN'T do from the Advertising Standards Authority

And for the really important bit what you CAN do…

1/ Do Promote Yourself and the Consultation Process

Focus on the fact that you are a medical professional!!

You are a safe pair of hands for clients and know what you’re talking about.

Showcase your knowledge and shine a light on the consultations you offer.

This not only promotes how well you operate but also shows clients you are able to prescribe for them

2/ Do Advertise Fillers

Dermal fillers do not require a prescription – use this to your advantage!

You can use before and afters, and clearly promote the treatments you offer.

Fillers cover a whole range of treatments, not just lips, and make sure your clients know that!

3/ Get Creative and Show Your Personality

Social media is used across the industry to promote services, the best way to stand out from the crowd is by being yourself!

Take videos, document your achievements, and engage with your audience!

It can be frustrating trying to find the best ways around rules and regulations for treatments involving botox, don’t let it get in the way of using social media to your advantage. It’s a great way to reach and connect with your audience and leads to more clients
