It’s always interesting to hear how people have set up their aesthetic business, Ronald, a nurse completed his foundation Botox and Dermal Fillers training in June 2017 and has gone on to set up a co-op with some other nurses. Here is his story:
Ronald’s initial plan was to work on a mobile basis travelling to clients in their own homes as he didn’t have a commercial premise or a spare room in his house to work from, he also has eight Chihuahuas running around causing chaos all day!
With the future prospect of working his way through the HIS process, application filling out and paying registration fee’s Ronald explains – “over coffee with a friend I learned that her sister was a nurse prescriber and had also trained in various aesthetic techniques over the last five years, she was keen to find a prescriber to work with so we arranged a meeting where I explained my future intentions.
The nurse prescriber told me due to the introduction of HIS, she intended to set up a working cooperative where a small group of nurses could work together sharing costs and knowledge.
Fortunately, the prescriber had small premises next to her house where we could work from”.
How We Set Up Our Nurses Co-op
“There are five nurses in the co-op, some well-established others like myself starting out in their aesthetics journey, we have shared the cost of the initial HIS application between us and also the yearly registration as well as cosmetic insurance. Other costs which we have shared are sharps disposal. waste disposal and other sundries such as fire safety equipment.
Each nurse in the co-op shares a role from policies to cleaning and we work well together, recently we have added an on-line booking system so we can see at a glance if another member is booked in to premises to avoid double booking.
We have been meeting HIS requirements for CPD, compiling folders of our training for aesthetics and training requirements such as anaphylaxis and basic life support or ILS which they are asking for.
We have recently started doing mentor sessions which are excellent when you are just starting out to gain tips and techniques from more established practitioners, we are also expecting our first HIS inspection in the coming weeks.
Each practitioner has his/her business under their own business name but we have the same business address which we practice from. Working together in a small group and sharing costs has been a great experience, not only are you cutting your costs, you are in a learning environment, I would recommend that more practitioners get together and adopt this mode of working, yes HIS in a headache to sort through but they have helped us by being quite clear about requirements they expect from us as a co-op.
I am sure if you can come together with others to work together, it could work for you as well and hope my story so far is useful to you.
