Lips are big business for the aesthetic practitioner!!!
The global lip augmentation market size was estimated at $6.4 billion in 2022, WOW! Even more WOW, it’s projected to grow at an annual growth rate of 7.8% from 2023 to 2030.
This will come as no surprise to aesthetic practitioners who often say lip filler has consistently remained one of their most requested treatments.
So how do you become the ‘go-to’ for lip treatment in your area?
1) Less is ALWAYS More
Start out with a smaller amount of product when injecting a set of lips, then let it settle for a couple of weeks.
This means you can reassess and add more if you feel the desired look has not been achieved. Adding too much to begin with is more challenging to reverse.
Another benefit of using less product is there will be fewer lumps and bumps and less chance of migration!
Everyone has their preferences, but we are a big fan of ‘natural’ which could never be achieved by over filling.
2) Know Your Product
Knowing the rheology of your product is important. Do you use a thicker product? Thinner?
We recommend using the product you have been trained in but should be noted that the thicker the product, the more likely you are to see lumps or bumps!
Build up your product knowledge. You should know exactly what you’re injecting, where you’re injecting and the depth you’re injecting. This is key!
3) Every Patient is Unique
Although you might have your preferred results, it is important to listen to the patient to find out what they are looking for and their concerns
Consider what product would suit them best, is it within their budget?
Patients might also have a preferred technique, bringing in the debate of cannula vs needle.
It is important to remember your patients desired look will be most likely be based on appearance alone, whereas you have the medical & aesthetic knowledge.
You are responsible for making the best treatment plan for your patient, so personalise each one so you are both happy with the end results!
4) Be Aware of the Risks & What to Do
It is your responsibility to educate yourself so that in the unlikely event something goes wrong, you are equipped to handle it.

5) Practise makes Perfect!
The best thing you can do to build up your confidence in injecting is to practise and keep practising!
Once you’ve completed your training, provided you got your certificate (!) you should begin practising right away.
Ask your family and friends, then find out if they know anyone else who could get some treatment.
6) Keep Building Your Knowledge
“You will always have something new to learn” S Kersee
Keep up with your professional development, build up your knowledge and clinical skills on lips as this will give you more confidence, keep you safe and improve your injection techniques.
