Tear troughs can be intimidating. Many aestheticians are quick to avoid this treatment due to safety risks.
However, while safety must always be at the forefront of your mind in aesthetics, it may not be as dangerous as you think so long as you are expertly trained.
Please keep in mind where filler is injected it’s –
A) Not in the actual tear troughs but underneath
B) Not as close to the facial arteries as you believe. They look close with the naked eye, but medically speaking, this is low risk.
This is not to say you don’t have the be careful, like any treatment, safety comes first.
Let’s take a look at some top tips for successfully treating tear troughs.
Select the Correct Clients
One of the most important factors when undertaking tear troughs is selecting the right clients. This treatment is not for everyone, so how do you decide who’s right for this?
A good medical consultation is key. Use their patient history to find out if they have or have had issues with allergies. In this case, they should be ruled out.
Another type of patient to avoid would be those who have primary tear troughs. Meaning their shadowing has not occurred by ageing, but has potentially been this way since childhood.
Tear trough treatment is not designed to lighten the eyes but add volume underneath. Therefore, it is always necessary to assess if the problem your client is describing could be tackled a different way.
Treat the Face Holistically
Taking us onto the next point – treat the face as a whole.
Clients may come in with an exact idea of what they want. However, it is your job to determine what will lead to the best results.
For example, using a small amount of filler on the cheeks, and surrounding the outside areas first, may lift the face. From here, the tear troughs would only need a tiny touch up.
It’s important to always work this way, as treating just one area can cause the face to look unnatural or over-treated.
Using the Product
When it comes to the amount of product, less is more!
We now have products that are more predictable, however they can still grow over time. Using the least amount of product possible will lower the risk of any future complications.
Slow and steady wins the race. Taking your time will allow you to work carefully and gently, reducing bruising and keeping control of how much you apply.
