First step is your foundation level training in Botox and Fillers all training starts here and then its onto deciding how you are going to work for someone or set up your own business.
Its a job you will love and you can fit it round family life and work part or full time.
Here Tash Petrie shares her experience of joining the medical aesthetic industry, tips and advice.
Tash Petrie worked as a Registered Paediatric Nurse from 2013 until she completed her Foundation training with Inspired Cosmetic Training in 2016. She now owns Derma T Aesthetics
Medical aesthetics became Tash’s passion and she made the big leap of leaving the NHS and opening her own clinic ‘Derma T Aesthetics’ in 2017! She has since gone on to get a PG Diploma in Cosmetic Medicine, become Nurse Independent prescriber and mentor.
Tash’s advice & tips…….
Step 1: Do Your Research
• Aesthetics is a fast moving industry, its high demand and fiercely competitive with loads wanting a piece of the pie.
• There is continuous legislative changes. HIS for example. Knowing these and understanding these changes will help you moving forward.
• What legal obligations do you have? What current skill set do you have?
• Don’t get caught up in the social media hype. Get facts first.
Step 2: What’s Your Why?
• Do you want to be employed? Self employed?
• Employed: Competitive job market, most required experience. *8 jobs on indeed in Scotland, all ask for experience and/or prescriber role.
• Self employed: Open own premises? Business experience? Check out HIS website to see how many registered premises are in your area.
• Practice Privileges: Working for yourself under someone eases registration.
Opening a Clinic:
• BUSINESS PLAN!
• Be clear on your numbers.
• Is it a passion project? a hobby? or a business?
• Market research. • Finances, do you have working capital?
• Seek advice in areas you aren’t strong in example: business support, financial support, book keeping, marketing etc
• What is your UPS? What will make your business stand up against someone else in a competitive market.
• Can you offer the service you are opting in for?
Next Steps After Training:
Mentoring? Further training? HIS Support? University? A job?
Training:
• Do your research: Look for companies that offer training in the specific aesthetics field you’re interested in.
• Check their credentials: Make sure the company is accredited and has a good reputation in the industry.
• Look for reviews: Read online reviews from previous students to get an idea of the quality of the training.
• Ask about the curriculum: Find out what topics are covered and make sure they align with your goals.
• Consider the cost: Compare prices and make sure you’re getting value for your money.
• Look for hands-on experience: Choose a company that offers hands-on training so you can gain real-world experience.
• Check out what their on going support is like for after the training.

• Develop a solid business plan that includes your mission, target market, pricing strategy, and marketing plan.
• Obtain the necessary licenses and certifications required by your area.
• Choose a location that is easily accessible and in a high-traffic area.
• Invest in quality equipment and supplies to ensure the best results for your clients.
• Hire qualified and experienced staff members who share your passion for aesthetics.
• Build a strong online presence through social media and a professional website.
• Offer exceptional customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere to keep clients coming back.
• Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and techniques in the industry to remain competitive
