Fear of injecting is natural when first starting out its nothing to be ashamed and its what keeps us safe! Even advanced practitioners experience it from time to time!!
However, allowing fear to completely take over, could be holding you back from success.
So, what can you do to calm your nerves? In this blog we’ll share some sound advice…
1. Always Be Prepared
Creating a safe environment will help you feel in control. This includes having your emergency kit and emergency protocol easily accessible to you.
2. Give Yourself Plenty of Space
This means allowing yourself lots of time with each patient. Don’t put yourself in a position where you will have to rush your appointment.
Avoiding time constraint stress will make it easier to keep calm and make decisions with a clear head.
3. Patient Selection – Don’t Be Afraid to Say No
One thing that’s unavoidable in aesthetics is that not everyone is suitable for treatment
We owe it to our patients and ourselves, to treat those who will benefit from it, and most importantly, those who are will not be at risk.
First and foremost, you are a medical professional, with the right to refuse a patient and don’t be pressurised to treat.
4. Practise makes Perfect!
The best thing you can do to build up your confidence in injecting is to practise and keep practising!
Once you’ve completed your training, provided you got your certificate (!) you should begin practising right away.
Ask your family and friends, then find out if they know anyone else who could get some treatment.
5. Keep Building Your Knowledge
“You will always have something new to learn” S Kersee
Keeping up with your professional development as it will not only help to build your knowledge and clinical skills it will help to give you more confidence in injecting and keep you safe.
6. Self-Reflection is Key
Confidence is great but so is self-reflection
Ask yourself, what am I good at? What am I not so sure about? Once you know, seek out further practise or mentorship. This will allow you to become the best you can be!
Remember, fear should not be completely ignored, it’s there for a reason. The goal is to learn how to rationalise it and take steps to ensure you’re providing safe, professional treatment.
